What's actually in a Škoda's factory system
The Canton system fitted to the current Kodiaq runs 10 high-performance speakers off a 10-channel, 570W DSP amplifier — a breakdown of one 25W centre speaker, four 20W tweeters, four 45W mid-bass drivers and a dual 100W subwoofer. It includes dynamic vehicle and road noise cancellation and Canton's own surround sound processing, engineered to deliver even coverage to every seating position, not just the front. Base-grade Škodas without the Canton option run a more modest unbranded system.
Where the factory system falls short
- Fixed factory tuning, even with Canton — the partnership covers speaker selection, amplifier design and voicing at the factory, but owners get no access to adjust crossover, time alignment or per-channel gain themselves.
- Non-Canton grades are built to a price — the base system on entry trims is engineered for acceptable background listening rather than serious volume or clarity.
- A fully digital, tightly integrated audio path — the Canton system's 10-channel DSP amplifier is deeply integrated with the factory infotainment, which makes naive aftermarket installs considerably more complicated and risky than it used to be.
- Factory speaker locations are a compromise — door and dash positions are dictated by styling and NVH requirements, so even genuine Canton driver hardware is working against less-than-ideal mounting.
What a genuine Škoda upgrade path looks like
The right approach leaves the factory head unit, infotainment screen and Canton badging (where fitted) completely intact.
