I get asked about this a lot at events: what's the EMMA Academy, and when can people actually sign up? Here's what I know from EMMA Australia's own channels, written plainly so you're not chasing a rumour.
What the EMMA Academy is
The EMMA Academy is a dedicated education initiative from EMMA Australia, separate from the competition calendar itself. It's built around two pillars: staying current with the latest product technologies, and hands-on instruction in advanced fabrication techniques. In practice that means masterclasses covering things like advanced fabrication, system design and DSP tuning — the skills that separate a tidy install from a competition-winning one.
Who it's actually for
This isn't aimed only at first-time competitors. EMMA Australia positions the Academy for two overlapping groups: industry professionals — installers and shop owners who want to upgrade their skills and keep pace with global trends — and dedicated competitors who want to refine their craft and be recognised as experts. When it's launching
EMMA Australia's own site has listed the Academy as "coming mid-2026" with no confirmed public start date, curriculum schedule or enrolment page published yet. I'm not going to invent a date for you — if you want the current status, the most reliable move is to email EMMA Australia directly at info@emmaaustralia.com and ask to be kept in the loop, or check in with your nearest EMMA-affiliated installer or dealer, since shops are usually first to hear when enrolment opens.
Why I think it matters
As a judge, I see the same gaps show up on scoresheets year after year — fusing that's technically compliant but untidy, wiring runs that work but won't hold up to close inspection, tuning that's close but not quite dialled in. A structured Academy pathway, if it delivers on the brief, is the first formal way for Australian competitors and installers to close that gap without having to piece it together from forum threads and trial and error. It also signals EMMA Australia is investing beyond just running events — which is generally a good sign for the local scene's long-term health.
What to do in the meantime
Don't wait on the Academy to start improving your build. If you're preparing your car now, start with the fundamentals covered in getting your car competition ready, and lean on your installer or dealer for the fabrication and tuning knowledge the Academy will eventually formalise.
