If you're planning a larger active system with separate amplifiers and comparing standalone DSP processors before you commit, this page is for you. Below is the full HELIX and BRAX standalone processor range, matched spec-for-spec against the most serious competing processors on the market — Audison, Mosconi, Rockford Fosgate, Alpine and JL Audio — using numbers from each manufacturer's own official data, not marketing copy. Looking for an amp+DSP combo instead of a separate processor? See our DSP Amplifiers Compared page, or start with our own DSP Processor Buying Guide for help deciding which route suits your build.
Which processor actually fits your build?
Channel count and I/O flexibility are really answering how big and how permanent your active system is:
- HELIX DSP MINI MK2 (6 out) — the compact entry point. Right for tuning a factory-speaker upgrade where space is genuinely tight and you don't need headroom to grow.
- HELIX DSP.3S (8 out) — accurate, musical tuning for upgraded factory or aftermarket systems that need more than the MINI MK2's six channels.
- HELIX DSP PRO MK3 (10 out) — built for demanding multi-way, multi-amp installs with room to grow as the system develops.
- HELIX DSP ULTRA S (12 out) — the most ambitious multi-amp system HELIX's standalone range covers, with an HEC expansion slot for factory integration modules.
- HELIX NEXT DSP ULTRA XT (16 out) — our new flagship. Dual 64-bit DSPs, 2.4B MAC/s and USB-C PerfectStream connectivity put it above the DSP ULTRA S as the top of the HELIX standalone range.
- BRAX DSP CORE (up to 12x, modular) — ATF's flagship brand. The same chassis accepts exchangeable analog and digital I/O cards, so it reconfigures as your build evolves rather than locking in a fixed channel count at purchase — reference-grade for no-compromise systems.

Specs sourced directly from each brand's official data as of 25 September 2026. Most competitor brands don't publish AU retail pricing, so we haven't guessed one — ours are our actual current prices. This table covers true standalone processors only (zero amp channels) — see our DSP Amplifiers Compared page for amp+DSP combo units from ESX, Musway and others.
Tuning ease: the difference a spec sheet won't show you
Every processor here is only as good as how easy it is to get a genuinely flat, time-aligned result out of it. This is where the field splits sharply, and it's worth knowing before you buy which camp each brand falls into.
Every HELIX and BRAX processor here is tuned in Audiotec Fischer's free DSP PC Tool 6, which includes two genuinely automated modules: ATM (Automatic Time Measurement) sets every channel's time alignment for you from a single sweep, and TuneEQ automatically matches your in-car response to a target curve. See our DSP Tuning Guide, Part 3 for exactly how that works. If you'd rather not do the measurement yourself, our AMI Tuning Kit lets you take the in-car measurement at home and send it to us for a remote tune built in the same official software.
Here's how the competing tuning platforms actually compare, based on each brand's own current documentation:
- Audison is the strongest competing platform here — the bit One HD Virtuoso ships with bit Tune, a genuine automated calibration system that sets time alignment, EQ and levels while flagging wiring or signal errors. A real equivalent to ATM/TuneEQ.
- Alpine is also genuinely automated — its Auto-EQ feature (part of the APVD Collection) runs a roughly 5-minute self-tune using a smartphone mic or an optional dedicated mic kit to flatten the in-car response.
- JL Audio's FiX-86 has real automation, but only for half the job — its one-button Automatic Time Correction handles time alignment, with no automated EQ step alongside it.
- Rockford Fosgate's DSR1 is controlled via the PerfectTune smartphone app, which makes manual adjustment easy, but we found no official documentation confirming a mic-based automatic EQ or time-alignment feature — treat it as app-assisted manual, not auto-tuned.
- Mosconi's DSP 6to8 PRO tunes via its PC-Tool software with a 30-band parametric EQ and fine time-correction steps, but no automated correction tool is published in its official documentation — it's manual only.
In practice, that means HELIX, BRAX, Audison and Alpine are the four platforms here with genuine automated tuning tools — and of those, ours is the only one with a documented at-home remote-tune path via the AMI Kit.
What actually decides the winner for your build
Every processor above is a genuinely competent piece of engineering. The difference in real-world outcome usually comes down to three things a spec sheet doesn't capture:
- How the system is wired. A standalone processor is only ever as good as the amplifiers and looms feeding it and leaving it — get the input and output matching right and every processor above will perform close to its spec sheet.
- The tune. See above — this is where the gap between brands is widest, not in the hardware.
- Local support. Several brands above have thin or unconfirmed official Australian distribution, which matters for warranty claims and firmware support.
We sell HELIX and BRAX because they're the ranges we can back with a genuine Australian warranty and tuning done in the official ATF software — not because every other brand here is lesser hardware. If your build genuinely calls for something outside our range, we'll say so.
